Yearly Meeting Thread Gathering on Climate Witness
Let Our Actions Speak
Saturday, March 22, 2025
Friends Center | 1501 Cherry St. Philadelphia, PA | Zoom
Worship at 9, Event 9:30 – 4:00
The earth is calling, and we are called to listen deeply. As Quakers, what are we doing to address the climate crisis? How can we work together to be more effective? Philadelphia Yearly Meeting (PYM) has long been home to Friends who are committed to the work of climate justice, and PYM Thread Gatherings provide a sacred space for collaborative learning, resource sharing, and spiritual grounding.
On March 22, you are invited to gather with others who share your commitment—or curiosity—about climate action. This gathering will offer an opportunity to discuss practical next steps for your meeting, household, or community, and to hear from those already taking bold, faithful steps toward climate justice. Together, we will reflect on how we can more deeply answer the call to care for our planet.
This day is not only an invitation to act, but also to listen, reflect, and deepen our spiritual grounding. We will explore how we might respond to the urgency of the climate crisis, together, as a community grounded in faith, love, and creativity.
Worship. We will begin the day in worship, centering our hearts and minds in silence, opening ourselves to Divine guidance as we reflect on how to walk faithfully in these uncertain times.
Plenary. We’ll hear from a panel of Friends who are deeply involved in climate activism, education, and witness. Their stories will provide both spiritual and practical grounding as we explore the current climate crisis and our collective response.
Workshops. You will have the opportunity to participate in two workshops, where you’ll engage with five climate-focused Quaker organizations connected to PYM. These groups have been at the forefront of our witness on climate change, and the Friends who lead them will share their insights and experiences throughout the day.
The organizations include:
- Earth Quaker Action Team (EQAT)
- PYM Climate Witness Stewards (CWS)
- PYM Eco-Justice Collaborative (EJC)
- Quaker Action Mid-Atlantic Region (QAMAR)
- Quaker Earthcare Witness (QEW)
These workshops are designed to deepen your understanding of climate action, explore steps to better practices for a healthy biosphere, creative ways to build resilience in your communities, and inspire a sense of sacred urgency. Together, we will connect our work to a higher purpose, motivated by our Quaker values of love, justice, and peace.
There will also be youth programming during the workshop blocks, ensuring that children and young people can participate and engage with the day’s themes.
Whether you are just beginning your journey or have been working on climate issues for years, this gathering will provide nourishment for your soul and your work. Together, we will strengthen our bonds as a Quaker community, supporting one another in our shared commitment to climate justice.
The choices we make today ripple out, affecting not only our lives but the lives of future generations. Let us come together in love, curiosity, and spiritual commitment to learn how we can let our actions speak in caring for the Earth and all its inhabitants.
A query to hold as you arrive for the day.
What do you love about our Earth that you never want to lose?
Hybridity. For the first time, this will be a hybrid Thread Gathering, allowing us to connect both in person and virtually. Whether you join us at Friends Center or from your home, we invite you to be part of this sacred conversation. Together, let us explore how we can live our Quaker faith to address climate change.
We look forward to gathering with you.
