Glenthorne is a Quaker Guesthouse located in the Lake District, Great Britain. They invite Friends to join them for worship at 9:15 AM London time. Perhaps, due to the time difference this is only for those insomniacs among us …
Terry Winterton is the Friend in Residence at Glenthorne Guest House and Conference Center.
He has this message to share:
“Hello Everyone! We hope that you are keeping well and in good spirits in these unprecedented times. As you will have expected, Glenthorne closed for business last weekend (22 March), initially until the end of April. Thanks to the Government and our Trustees we are all being paid at the moment. Laura is in the office working on administration and the phone is being staffed in the day between the hours of 9.00 am to 1.00 pm.
Rebecca (reception), Sam and Nicole (general assistants) have gone home (to Scotland, Newcastle and Carlisle, respectively). Sessie and Diana are staying because they cannot go back to Bulgaria. Our chefs Paul and Gary, and our receptionist Poppy, plus the Housekeeper Shirley and gardener Tim, are staying locally.
We are all self isolating and observing the 2 metre rule except the Herdwick sheep who seem to be ignoring the news and wondering where everyone is!
I took this picture this morning from my flat. There are also quite a few new born lambs in the fields enjoying the fine weather.
It’s all very strange and extremely quiet with almost no one out on the hills and fields nearby.
We are continuing our Meeting for Worship in the garden room every weekday between 9.15 am and 9.35 am. You can join us on your laptop or mobile phone by Zoom in video or by voice only. If you are interested then please send me an email request at terryglenthorne@gmail.com and I will send you an email invitation that you can click on to join us. I’ve set up my laptop so that you can see out of the garden room window and see the lovely view you are used to!
We look forward to welcoming guest house visitors and looking after guests once it is safe to do so. In the meantime we all send you our warmest wishes.”
