Philadelphia Yearly Meeting welcomes with joy Sheila Sorkin into the role of Aging Support Coordinator; we are ecstatic to have someone with a long history of working in fields related to care for the aging.
As the Aging Support Coordinator, I am pleased to join Philadelphia Yearly Meeting. Both of my sons attended the Plymouth Meeting Friends School to begin their academic years. The foundation given them and the supportive relationships built were influential for our family. My husband and I volunteered there and were appreciative of the community values given to our sons.
My years of professional experience in long term care include serving as Social Services Director in Home Health Care, Nursing and Rehab Center, as well as Director of Assisted Living Communities, an Independent Living facility. Building effective and collaborative relationships with community members, health care providers, social service agencies and housing services is one of my key skills. I have both current licenses as a MSW and NHA. As an alumnae of University of Pennsylvania School of Social Work (SP2), I served as a field supervisor for many years. I am currently participating as a mentor for 3 graduate and doctoral students through the Penn Mentor Collaborative.
Having grown up in a 3-generation home, my family is most important to me. My husband and I especially enjoy our time with our five grandchildren. When not working, I spend time walking, reading and growing flowers from seed. My husband and I have done extensive traveling internationally and to most states with the goal of seeing all the national parks. As travel opens more, we intend to continue with the joy of seeing nature and experiencing different cultures.
