Youth in grades 8 through 12 are invited to participate in a new PYM Young Friends (YF) program! Responding to what we are hearing from current PYM youth, we are seeking to create a program that will focus on getting to know other teens, building community, and having fun together! There will also be time for workshops focused on Quaker faith and values and issues of importance to YFs. Gatherings will take place twice a month throughout the spring of 2024, with some in-person and some on Zoom.
This spring will be a pilot program, with YF participants joining in the co-creation of the ongoing program design. Through workshops, reflections, and discussions, participants will help to shape the YF program going forward. Workshops will focus on topics such as Environmental Advocacy, Conscientious Objection, Queer Theology, and other topics of interest to YFs as they seek to live out their Quaker faith in the world.
As YFs will be providing ministry – sharing their time and energy in the development of this program – a stipend will be offered. In return, we ask YFs to commit to a sustained and thoughtful involvement throughout the spring. We hope to have a group of 10 to 15 youth participate.
This program will be facilitated by Clare Chalkley and Tara Rubinstein, PYM Young Friends Co-Facilitators. Locations of in-person gatherings are TBD and will take travel for participants into account.
