The FWCC World Plenary Meeting is a meeting for representatives from all four FWCC Sections to undertake FWCC business, surrounded by worship and fellowship with Friends from around the world. It will meet August 5-12, 2024, in South Africa and online, exploring themes of Ubuntu and Community, Healing Historic and Continuing Injustice, and Care for Creation.

Working for Global Policy Change in Turbulent Times

Representatives from AFSC’s Policy Department will speak about the organization’s efforts to develop more comprehensive policy change strategies across levels of government globally, and ways we can keep up momentum for change when times feel hopeless. They will also speak to AFSC’s preparations for multiple election scenarios in the U.S., drawing on the organization’s global experience as well as its organizing and training expertise. Aura Kanegis, Imani Cruz, and Mike Merryman-Lotze will share stories from their work and talk about ways to look beyond politically expedient strategies that may undermine long term goals, setting a course for deeper and more substantive long-arc change.

Ujima Friends Sewing for Africa

Since 2019, members of the Ujima Friends Peace Center have partnered with Sankofa Artisan Guild to make reusable, environmentally friendly menstrual pads, pouches, and under garments for African girls’ whose educations are compromised due to “period poverty.” The group, now known as the PanAfrican Sisterhood Health Initiative (PASHI), is led by a group of Black Women elders most of who are community workers, keepers of the culture, educators, activists, counselors and lovers of the arts.
