A meeting with Lorraine Claggett, member of the Third Haven Friends Meeting Pastoral Care Committee, during fellowship at Philadelphia Yearly Meeting Annual Sessions opened many doors to learning about dedication, creativity, and outreach to the meeting’s aging Friends. Connecting with Dona Sorce, past Clerk of the Pastoral Care Committee was also enlightening. Several years ago, the meeting recognized many members were over the age of 50. Subsequently, the group invited George Schaefer, a member of Abington Meeting who previously served Philadelphia Yearly Meeting from 2009 to 2022 as Care and Aging Coordinator, to discuss PYM’s resources for aging Friends. We recently connected with Pastoral Care Committee members Bill Schauer, Terry Thomas-Primer, and Dee Rein to learn more about their efforts. A Friend’s Love for Extreme Couponing Turns Into an Old City Food Pantry
In 2010, Hazele Goodridge, member of Monthly Meeting of Friends of Philadelphia (MMFP) at Arch Street Meeting House and longtime Philadelphia resident, felt the call to serve her community and joined Philabundance’s Community Food Center Choice Food Pantry as a volunteer. During those days, Philabundance’s food pantry drew an estimated 300 people daily seeking assistance and support. AFSC Action Hour for a Ceasefire Now
Join the American Friends Service Committee to take action and write to Congress during this heightened period of crisis in Gaza, the West Bank and Israel. AFSC will share an update from our staff on the ground, then help you engage with us in making calls to the White House and your member of Congress, calling for an immediate ceasefire. We will also show a tutorial on effective letter writing and spend time writing letters together. We will share resources and other action items that can increase our collective voices at this critical time.
Thank you for offering prayers and support as we witness the horrific scenes of violence and destruction in Palestine and Israel.
