To Philadelphia Yearly Meeting:
We write on behalf of our Quaker Meeting (Swarthmore Friends Meeting) to voice our deep concern for the future of our democracy, in the light of the violent insurrection that the President of our nation inflamed with the support of other elected government officials. It was aimed at denying the valid certification of the votes from the states to confirm the election of Joe Biden as our 46th president and Kamala Harris as the vice president.
We must act together as citizens of this nation to stand in the clear light of rational and peaceable values to reject and condemn both the motivation of this movement and the violent performance of the mob incited to this immoral behavior. He has put us all in danger and laid upon us the now necessary burden to restore the core strengths of our historical values and practices.
As Quakers we welcome the opportunity to join with our fellow citizens in the collaborative work that will help us move forward in a positive way on a shared path toward peace, justice, equity and a more humane society and world.
In the Light of Love, on behalf of Swarthmore Friends Meeting, Swarthmore, PA
