Mt. Holly Friends Meeting
“Spiritual State of the Meeting”
Mt. Holly Meeting looks ahead. We do this even as we prepare to celebrate the 250th anniversary of our meetinghouse building next year in 2025. During those centuries the building has been a spiritual sanctuary even while witnessing arguments, grief, triumph, and occupation by warring armies. It has been thoughtfully altered over time just as the Society of Friends has also gradually changed.
We are fortunate to have a stable membership after a period of membership decline. A spirit of free discussion of diverse religious insights prevails among our members and attenders. We make ourselves and our meetinghouse accessible to the neighborhood at all times and work hard to be welcoming toward visitors.
Mt. Holly Meeting continues our long history of recognizing the scourge of racial and social injustice. We support open discussion of difficult issues within our town and elsewhere around the globe. We encourage peaceful resolution of differences through our support of the Alternatives to Violence program. Answers can be illusive but we are led by Quaker faith that Truth can be revealed.
Our meeting works to reduce the climactic impact of heating and cooling the meetinghouse. Research is under way to discern the feasibility of our utilizing a geothermal heating system. We labor with the understanding that all things on earth are interrelated, that the God within is not the property of human beings alone. This is our future.
