In the past year, how has your Meeting worked to create and strengthen the reality of a Beloved Community?
How has your Meeting fostered an environment in which members and attenders of all ages know they are loved, cared for, trusted, and respected? We have restarted our regular social time after Meeting for Worship, potlucks and Friendship dinners and have continued having periodic family gatherings with bonfires. We also continue to serve meals a few times a year with Family Promise, an organization dedicated to assisting families with issues of homelessness. We have concerns that our younger Friends and families have been slow to return and we are working on initiating several projects they have expressed interest in recently.
How have you sought to be neighbors and in relationship with other communities?
We had a presentation by Friendship House on the ways in which they seek to address issues of homelessness, held our community greensmaking and Carol singing around Christmas time, and have continued to support LCH and the historic Hockessin Colored School #107. We have also continued our yearly Bazaar which has served as a very welcoming event to the local community.
How has your Meeting been called to address issues of racism this past year?
What additional concerns and initiatives have your Meeting or Meeting members been led to address? We have been addressing issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion for many years and continue to work to be sure that all members and attenders feel valued and appreciated.
How has the Spirit guided your work on climate change? Has your Meeting appointed a Climate Witness liaison?
We carry a strong concern on the issue of climate change and have several members attending programs on these issues in neighboring Quarterly Meetings and through PYM. I do not believe we have an appointed Climate Witness liaison at this point.
What learnings and yearnings particular to your Meeting would you like to share?
We seem to currently have a lack of strong or consistent vocal ministry and few of us attend our adult First Day School sessions.
What are things the Yearly Meeting might do to support your Meeting?
We have been investigating some of the curriculum offerings from PYM on strengthening our Meeting community and would be interested in hosting someone to lead us in these types of programs in the future. We have also been in contact already to get some support in working through decisions we are making in the management of our property into the years ahead
