On February 5th, about 125 Friends gathered for the PYM program Thread Gathering: Restorative Racial Justice. Following a morning with Central Philadelphia Monthly Meeting facilitators .O and Dana Reinhold, three different collaboratives–Middle East Collaborative, First Contact Reconciliation Collaborative (FCRC) and Eco-Justice Collaborative–offered overviews of current work. Below is a follow-up story by FCRC.
First Contact Reconciliation Collaborative continues to engage the Yearly Meeting in our reveal of three campaigns having multiple entry points and resources, posted on the Yearly Meeting First Contact Reconciliation Collaborative Call To Action web page. Glory be of Spirit; we are calling in the body of PYM!
We seek to…
Honor the promise of perpetual peace and friendship between Lenape (who have remained on their original homelands) and Philadelphia Yearly Meeting Friends who received the Treaty of Amity, 1995.
We seek to…
Change the mascot toward educating individuals and schools on how they might choose to support campaigns to remove harmful mascots/ imagery in New Jersey and Pennsylvania, educating ourselves and others on national campaigns that benefit indigenous peoples.
We seek…
Truth and healing through re-story-ing truths, engaging in truth-telling and healing, and joining together to understand and know our truths. This means looking at meeting histories, burial records and researching Quakers’ roles in colonization past and present and discussing how that has affected Native Peoples.
