Minute of Support for Philadelphia Yearly Meeting

Schuylkill Friends Meeting would like to offer our support and thank the Philadelphia Yearly Meeting for taking swift and significant action against the change in policy by the Department of Homeland Security. Since taking office, the Trump Administration has shattered common-sense practices and policies that helped to protect people and allow for a society where everyone can worship in safety.
The lawsuit filed against the changes that allow Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents to access places of worship is apt and timely. As members of the Religious Society of Friends we have not only a tradition of standing up for religious freedom, but a duty to do so. Having our Yearly Meeting take leadership in this effort to right the wrong is greatly appreciated.
Schuylkill Friends is in an area with many immigrants that are a vital part of our community. We know that many of the Quaker Meetings that are part of Philadelphia Yearly Meeting are in a similar situation. We are open to all who want to worship with us. We want our friends and neighbors to be able to attend any place of worship without fear of being questioned or detained by an ICE agent.
