Make space for our youth to thrive and their voices to lead
Recently Youth Programs Advisory Committee found joy and fulfillment! Here’s how:
- Nearly 40 kids are at Sessions this year, including 9 babies and preschoolers
This is a current or upcoming project or interesting thing the committee is working on:
- Exploring how to build Quaker youth programming and community in the places where the youth already are.
People who participate in this committee can learn and grow in this way:
- You get direct contact with youth and what is important to them – it will change your view of the world.
This committee functions at its best when there are people serving on it who have these skills or experiences:
- Youth empowerment
- Encountering and creating space where exponential diversity is welcome
- Child and youth development
- Developing programs and resources
The realistic time commitment of members of this committee includes:
- The committee meets as needed, only several times per year
- Volunteer as led to be a Friendly Presence at youth programs
Membership:
- Members of committees are appointed by the council they serve. Youth Programs Advisory Committee is under Quaker Life Council
- Ideally the committee has 11 members; the committee currently has nine.
Charge:
The Youth Programs Advisory Committee sets the overall direction of PYM youth programs under the guidance of the vision and mission. It helps to season issues, respond to concerns, and hold youth programs in loving care. A key operating principle of this committee is to empower youth voice and share power in the context of beloved community. The committee embodies this principle through the way it conducts its affairs and fulfills its charge outlined here.
