Support highly functioning and deeply centered governance!
Recently Governance Advisory Committee found joy and fulfillment! Here’s how:
- Discussion and discernment of the PYM structure has been fulfilling to all.
People who participate in this committee can learn and grow in this way:
- They might grow individually with sense of satisfaction from helping the PYM governance function.
- Participants can get a deeper understanding of how a non-profit organization can be set up to thrive.
This committee functions at its best when there are people serving on it who have these skills or experiences:
- Those who have had a senior leadership role, board role, or governance role in Quaker or outside organization.
The realistic time commitment of members of this committee includes:
- About 90 minutes a month for a meeting,
- About 30 minutes a month or less reading prep for the meeting.
Membership:
- Members of committees are appointed by the council they serve. Governance Advisory Committee is under Admin Council
- The committee membership is primarily formed with ex officio members including a representative from each council, from the clerk’s table, from senior staff and from the young adult Friends community. In addition there are three at large seats. No members are currently needed.
Charge: The Governance Committee is subservient to the three councils jointly and ensures they function in a healthy and consistent manner. Each Council holds specific responsibilities, which allow the body of the yearly meeting to act as the body is led by divine guidance. The Governance Committee is a resource and advisor which keeps the councils aware of good practices and of how they are operating. The Committee offers support when a council or its parts are floundering.
In addition there are three at large seats which are appointed by Administrative Council and which are intended to bring in Friends who have an experience of both Quaker practice and non-profit management. No members are currently needed.
