Minute of Support for Philadelphia Yearly Meeting from Newark (Delaware) Monthly Meeting

Newark Monthly Meeting of the Religious Society of Friends supports Philadelphia Yearly Meeting, acting with Baltimore Yearly Meeting, New England Yearly Meeting, Adelphi Monthly Meeting, and Richmond Monthly Meeting, as plaintiffs, in their lawsuit against the Department of Homeland Security for its actions to allow federal immigration enforcement agents to enter places of worship in order to take immigration enforcement action.
In a small Meeting such as ours, the presence of worshippers is vital to our worship, as every person’s spiritual connection is essential to the experience of worship of the group as a whole. The experience of worship of each person in the Meeting, and of the Meeting as a whole, is harmed when any person finds attendance fearful or lacking security.
We support and thank Philadelphia Yearly Meeting and its partners for their courage in taking this action.
