Review of the PYM & other Quaker organizations suit against Department of Homeland Security
The clerk asked the Meeting if it wanted to minute its support for the PYM/other Quaker institutions’ lawsuit brought against the Department of Homeland Security challenging its immigration enforcement decision that interferes with and could significantly impact freedom of religion. The plaintiffs are asking the court to declare unconstitutional any policy permitting government agents to carry out immigration enforcement activities at or near houses of worship. Some members of our Meeting, who were present the PYM sponsored briefing by the Democracy Forward pro-bono lawyer who filed the lawsuit, spoke to this matter. After a brief period of discernment The Meeting approved supporting the PYM lawsuit and asked the clerk to forward this minute of support to Philadelphia Yearly Meeting.
