Nikki Mosgrove, presiding clerk,
Exeter Monthly Meeting shares Philadelphia Yearly Meeting’s concern regarding the importance of individuals feeling safe to attend religious events and services regardless of their immigration status and that such events and locations should continue as “protected areas”. We therefore unite with the action that the leadership of our yearly meeting has taken.
We do not, however, approve of the decision-making process the leadership used to arrive at such action. It is a long Quaker practice that leadings be discerned among the meeting membership, first, and that the Yearly Meeting’s process was inadequate to involve our membership in this decision, regardless of the perceived urgency.
We call upon the yearly meeting to lay this concern before the monthly meetings so that we may discern and advise the yearly meeting on how to expedite similar urgent matters in the future.
Respectfully,
Exeter Monthly Meeting of Friends
Stan Dalton, clerk
