Miriam tells Sybil and Eli a school for boys has recently opened in the village and asks them to help her teach the local girls. Miriam herself has received schooling at the German mission school in Jerusalem, Thalita Kumi, founded in 1851. With some of their collected funds the Quaker missionaries support Miriam. Thus, Friends Girls School is founded.
On their return to England Sybil and Eli report what they have done, and English Friends enthusiastically take up support of Friends Girls School. Ramallah becomes the seat of London Friends school and mission until 1888 when English and American Friends agree that the Americans will take over support of the Ramallah work and the English will support the Friends School in Brummana, Lebanon.
