Get ready for a Super Quaker Weekend! During the last weekend in September, PYM Youth Staff will be joining in youth and family-centered events throughout the region, leading up to World Quaker Day on Sunday, October 1st, hosted by our friends at Friends World Committee for Consultation (FWCC). No matter where you are located within PYM, there’s something for everyone to enjoy and participate in during this Fall weekend. All are welcome!
2023 Tri-Quarter Gathering
F/friends from Haddonfield, Salem and Burlington Quarterly Meetings will descend upon the YMCA’s “Camp of the Pines”, located in Medford, NJ. The popular family fun-filled camp beckons families and youth to build new and lasting friendships with plenty of opportunities for youth to explore the great outdoors, convene with nature and participate in workshops.
Upper Susquehanna Quarterly Fall Gathering
Upper Susquehanna Quarterly Meeting will be hosting a gathering at the picturesque Crystal Lake. A beautiful fall foliage will serve as the perfect backdrop to discuss our collective Yearly Meeting Wide Witness Call to Climate Action and Equity. Lodging includes options to camp or stay in comfortable cabins or the lodge. The retreat will feature planned programming for Youth, plus intergenerational activities will keep young friends engaged, connected and curious about stewarding our planet.
Bucks Quarter Peace Fair & PYM Young Friends Overnight!
The 23rd Annual Peace Fair, hosted by our Friends at Buckingham Meeting, focuses on peace, community service, healthy living and the environment. This year’s event will feature local crafts, artwork, food, kids’ games, a dunk tank and more. Listen in on poetry readings and music by invited bluegrass band entertainers plus tour the 250-year-old Quaker Meetinghouse and National Landmark.
PYM’s Young Friends will partner with Bucks Quarter, serving as stagehands for the Peace Fair, helping with set-up/clean-up and other tasks alongside Peace Fair volunteers. Young Friends will then gather on-site for a pizza party and overnight stay at Buckingham Meeting. They will reconnect, log community service hours for school and share in fellowship with other Young Friends and the wider Quaker community. On Sunday morning, Young Friends will join Buckingham Friends for Meeting for Worship. The cost for the overnight is $30 and financial assistance is available.
What better way to observe and proudly celebrate the legacy and impact of Quaker faith ahead of World Quaker Day than with a series of fun events sure to build memories for years to come! Contact Youth Engagement Coordinator, Kristin Simmons for more information.
