Hockessin Monthly Meeting of the Religious Society of Friends, in the State of Delaware, assembled on Third month 2nd day, 2025, in meeting for worship with attention to business, affirms its support for the lawsuit that Philadelphia Yearly Meeting and other yearly and monthly meetings have filed against the Department of Homeland Security. The lawsuit challenges a policy that would allow immigration agents to carry out enforcement actions at places of worship. We believe that all people have the right to the free exercise of religion and to peaceably assemble and that such a policy would interfere with the ability to worship without fear. Central to our form of worship is recognizing “that of God in everyone.” Fundamentally, all individuals are sacred and deserving of equal respect. Furthermore, we follow in a long tradition that calls us to welcome the stranger and includes the divine mandate, “Any immigrant who lives with you must be treated as if they were one of your citizens. You must love them as yourself…” (Lev. 19:34). For these reasons, we add our voices in support of the lawsuit.
