Friends in business – or retired from it – join together through PYM twice a year to share ideas, nurture their network, and explore perspectives. These times together provide a space to reflect on the intersection of faith and professional life. Each event features a talk, often by a someone who shares their experience of integrating important values into their professional career.
Friends in Business is a unique space within Quakerdom. It provides an opportunity for those in the business world – and those who are Quaker-leaning – to connect, share stories, and explore the intersection of business and faith. At a time when fewer Friends are involved in business compared to the past, this group creates a sense of community and support for those navigating the professional world. The yearly meeting plays a key role in connecting individuals across our geographic region, in fellowship and understanding among Friends.
Next Friends In Business Speaker: Sara M. Lomax
The Friends in Business dinner in December will feature Sara M. Lomax, President and CEO of WURD Radio, LLC., as the keynote speaker. Sara will address Power, Purpose, and Possibility of Independent Media — in an Age of Deep Polarization. As the leader of one of only three African-American owned radio stations in the country, Sara has transformed WURD into a powerful media platform that amplifies underrepresented voices. WURD was originally founded by her father, Dr. Walter P. Lomax Jr., who was also a Friends in Business speaker years ago. Sara’s work reflects a family tradition of leadership, which includes her brother Bennet Lomax, Vice Chair of Friends Fiduciary Corporation.
This dinner promises to be an evening of thoughtful dialogue, connection, and reflection on the impact of independent media. It’s an opportunity to hear from Sara as she shares insights drawn from her leadership in journalism, advocacy, and community engagement.
