Friends Committee on National Legislation (FCNL) will again determine its legislative priorities by asking Meetings and Churches to discern their own lists for work in Washington. During January and February, each monthly meeting in PYM will receive an invitation from FCNL to discern what issues should be the focus of FCNL’s work in Washington over the next Congress.
In this way, the Policy Committee of FCNL and the FCNL staff hear what Quakers across the U.S. think is vital to emphasize. When these discernments are matched with what bills are actually coming before the Congress within the next two years, the staff at FCNL is clearer in its work. Through its Legislative Policy Collaborative, PYM offers support for any meeting wanting guidance in working on this priority list.
Your clerk or social justice committee clerk should receive an envelope containing information about the process, ideas for the meeting as it conducts priorities-setting discussions, and the ways to submit the meeting’s list to FCNL. Both the directions for completing the Priorities Process and the general FCNL policy statement can be accessed by all. We, on the Legislative Policy Collaborative here in Philadelphia, are happy to help in any way to facilitate this work.
