First Contact Reconciliation Collaborative is seeking Friends’ truths. We are looking for those truths that work toward healing and involve humbly examining and sharing our stories.
Two actions friends may want to know about or be involved with:
Mission and Federal Indian Boarding Schools
Friends have a legacy with mission and federal Indian Boarding Schools that beckons further investigation. While the written history is elusive, allyship with Indigenous voices, including the Native American Boarding School Healing Coalition, encourages churches to research their roles in the IBS. Locally, in relationship with St John United Methodist Church, Fordville, NJ (a designated Native American Church), South Jersey Friends have taken up this work.
A Federal Truth and Healing Commission on Indian Boarding Schools
From grassroots discernment or from a discovery of resounding clearness that is void of concern, the First Contact Reconciliation Collaborative is urging the establishment of a Federal Truth and Healing Commission on Indian Boarding Schools. Spirit led individual communications with legislators are made relatively simple with Friends Committee on National Legislation.
