Quaker Call to Action in PYM

The Quaker Call to Action was initiated by a group of seasoned Friends in June of 2022 as “An Urgent Call to the Religious Society of Friends.” A national steering committee worked to support Friends and meetings in efforts to protect the integrity of local, state and national elections and to strengthen American democracy. They organized many Zoom meetings with Friends from around the USA; more than 1800 people have participated in these calls. The Quaker Call has produced several resources, including the recent list of “Priority Actions for the Quaker Call to Democracy.”
At the June 10th Zoom event, Bruce Birchard from the steering committee will introduce the “Quaker Call,” review the resources it has prepared, and answer questions about their work. Bruce will explain how the Quaker Call can support Friends and meetings in protecting elections in our tri-state area.
Participants will be invited to comment on the various ways they and/or their meetings have been involved (or plan to be involved) in pro-democracy work leading up to the November elections.
Initial plans for an in-person “Protect Our Elections” event September 22 at Arch Street Meeting House are also underway!
