Finding Peace in a Tumultuous World: A Mindfulness Series
February 12 @ 2:30 pm - 3:30 pm
An event every week that begins at 2:30 pm on Monday, repeating until February 26, 2024
As our world careens into ever-deepening complexity and noise, how can we develop the inner quiet and balance that we crave?
As we witness the suffering that is so pervasive, many of us ask ourselves, “How can I help?” Perhaps the greatest contribution many of us can offer is to learn to quiet our own reactivity so that we can bring compassion and peacefulness to our lives and to others’ lives. The practice of mindfulness as developed by the Buddha teaches us how to manage the mind, learn to watch our thoughts and emotions, and acknowledge our own suffering with compassion while we hold that of others with kindness.
In this 5-week class sponsored by the Friends Counseling Service, we will learn some basic mindfulness meditation practices, as well as some of the teachings underlying this path. Participants will be encouraged to practice the meditating between classes. There will be time for questions and practice in each session.
Weeks offered: Mondays, January 22 – February 26 (no program on Monday, February 19)
