The Philadelphia Yearly Meeting (PYM) of the Religious Society of Friends seeks candidates for the position of General Secretary. In existence since 1681, PYM is one of the largest Yearly Meetings in the United States. A member of Friends General Conference, it represents monthly and quarterly meetings as well as individual Friends in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware and Maryland.
Under the direction of the Yearly Meeting, the General Secretary is the chief administrator of PYM. The General Secretary is responsible for providing visionary executive leadership, oversight of all staff operations, and for support and integration of all PYM projects, services and activities. The General Secretary is expected to contribute positively to the vitality and effectiveness of PYM as a whole and to represent PYM and Quakerism to the broader community.
In leading the operations of PYM and its programs, the General Secretary reports to the Administrative Council and the Quaker Life Council. Responsibilities also include personnel leadership (30 employees, including 5 direct reports); communication and representation; development; fiscal and property management; and organizational support for PYM committees, member meetings and other Friends organizations.
Qualifications include a demonstrated record of servant leadership, team building and effective management. Participation in the Religious Society of Friends is required, including taking an active role in a Monthly Meeting, whether as a member or an attender. The salary range is $140,000-$150,000. A comprehensive benefit package is provided. Benefits include medical, dental and life insurance, commuter and health FSAs, a 403(b)-retirement plan with 7% employer contribution plus 3% match, and generous paid time off.
