In 2015 the Philadelphia Yearly Meeting committed to a yearly meeting-wide witness on addressing racism.
PYM is currently seeking content ideas to develop a booklet for meetings and communities to address racism. This initiative is similar to the booklet “Creating a Playbook on Climate Action,” a resource made in mind of a second yearly meeting-wide witness addressing climate change. The content you can contribute to the booklet could include queries, blogs, books, videos, financial tools, and activities that cover the Five Action Areas: Activism, Education, Addressing Personal Impacts, Finances, Mourning Loss and Instilling Hope as they pertain to racism.
How Can You Contribute?
Perhaps there is content showing how Friends can support efforts against racism, such as lobbying for change with elected officials or joining organizations like FCNL or the NAACP.
- You can contribute a query about how personal choices, such as businesses you support, may challenge racism.
- You might know of content for personal finance activities to align with anti-racist practices or ways to support reparation initiatives like the National African American Reparations Commission.
- Possibly you are aware of education opportunities online or in person, that deepen the understanding of racism and its impacts.
- You’re experienced in creating a space for worship sharing or for support groups to connect, grieve, and inspire collective action for racial justice.
There are multiple ways to contribute content as you feel led. To submit content please follow this link, if you have suggestions for content but are not sure where it fits please contact communications@pym.org.
