2025.03.4: Minute of Support for U.S. Friends
Friends shared their thoughts and concerns after which the following Minute was approved:
We are not for names, nor men, nor titles of Government, nor are we for this party nor against the other … but we are for justice and mercy and truth and peace and true freedom, that these may be exalted in our nation, and that goodness, righteousness, meekness, temperance, peace and unity with God, and with one another, that these things may abound.
– Edward Burrough (1659), died age 29 in Newgate Prison for holding a Meeting for Worship
Canadian Yearly Meeting of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) supports our fellow Friends in the U.S. who are working to oppose immigration enforcement in houses of worship. As a religious group that has been persecuted, we are aware of how important these rights to gather together for worship are. Historically, Quakers have worked to ensure that faith communities may gather and worship without limitation or interference.
