Emma Condori Mamani is a Bolivian Friend who travels in the ministry frequently. She is a founder and current Executive Director of El Centro Bilingüe Internacional Amigos (Friends International Bilingual Center or FBIC for short) and has hosted PYM Friends in La Paz as well as visiting and speaking at our Annual Sessions in 2019.
Emma’s presence in the Philadelphia area in January is an opportunity for meetings and Friends schools to engage with her about her vital work and ministry in Bolivia. Emma’s call draws her to advocate about racial justice issues, environmental witness, and service providing clean water to folks of limited means in La Paz. A Letter of Affirmation from Beth Collea in NEYM describes Emma’s ministry in more detail.
Emma will be attending a Quaker Religious Education Collaborative leadership retreat at Pendle Hill in early January and presenting programs at meetings on the Sundays in January. From the press release about her January 15 visit to Newtown Meeting:
Emma Condori Mamani has attended the Santidad Quaker Yearly Meeting since she was a child. She has served on various Quaker organizations, is a language teacher and a graduate from Earlham School of Religion in Richmond, Indiana with a Master of Divinity degree. She is one of the editors of Spirit Rising: Young Quaker Voices and the author of Quakers in Bolivia: The Early History of Bolivian Friends. Emma has traveled widely among Quakers in numerous countries leading workshops and teaching about Quakers in Bolivia.
Might your meeting be interested in inviting Emma to share her work with you on Sunday, January 29, or for a weeknight program? Emma is also looking for home hospitality between January 18-31.
With hopeful anticipation of this opportunity to travel among Friends in PYM, Emma wrote:
“God just opens ways for the host families and I to fellowship in spirit and truth as I travel in ministry.”
