Birmingham Meeting needed a new sign as the old wooden one was deteriorated and so small as to be difficult to read by the ever faster traffic on Birmingham Rd. We were concerned that the old style sign made us look like museum rather than a living and active faith community.
Friends wanted a new looking sign, yet one that was compatible with our historic meetinghouse. Additionally, we knew we had to design a sign that had a changeable message component. This would show our life and values and help attract visitors.
We have finally completed this project, partially paid for by a grant from the Membership Development Granting Group. The sign went from 2’x 3’ to almost 4’x 3’. Best of all we realized our goal for incorporating changing messages. The youth of our meeting have gotten very involved in helping create messages that communicate our Quaker values and testimonies. They have given us visually dramatic and colorful images that create dynamic interest for all who pass by.
