In 1774, Warner Mifflin freed his own slaves. He spent the remainder of his life trying to end slavery both among Quakers and in the American colonies. He is also noted for petioning the first Continental Congress to make slavery illegal in the new U.S. Constitution.

Warner was a member of Motherkill Meeting which was under the care of Camden Meeting. Motherkill or Murderkill was a name for the area given by the Swedes who lived in the region. A kil or a kiln is another name for a creek. When that Meeting was laid down, its membership was absorbed by Camden. Later the property was sold. Though the burial ground remains intact some graves have been moved to Camden Meeting.
