Middle East Working Group
MISSION STATEMENT
The overall purpose of the Middle East Working Group is to provide opportunities
for Friends with concerns relating to the Middle East to engage with one another.
While we are concerned about the entire geographic area , our attention has
focussed primarily on the Israeli/Palestinian conflict. We carry out our work
by:
- Providing information/education to members of PYM so that they might be
more knowledgeable about the area and the main issues confronting those
trying to
build a just peace.
- Putting faith into action through encouraging and facilitating dialogue
on our Peace Testimony and finding concrete ways to act in this deeply
troubled
situation.
- Partnering with Friends in Ramallah and other Friends organizations
which have programs in the Middle East by nurturing and assisting
their efforts.
- Helping Friends not to be overwhelmed by a sense of despair in
this conflict by identifying specific, realistic (human size) ways
to witness,
the expectation
being that more Light will be given to us as we proceed.
As we carry out this work we are deeply informed and affected by
our Peace Testimony and by the commitment of the Yearly Meeting
made in
March of 2002
to Friends in Ramallah.

Report on our Trip to Ramallah: A Journey of Joy, Sorrow, and Inspiration
On Sunday, March 6, 2005, a group of Friends from Philadelphia Yearly Meeting (and Baltimore and North Carolina YM's) who had helped make possible the restoration of the Ramallah Friends meeting house gathered there in Palestine with Friends from Ramallah Meeting for a celebration and rededication of that facility. It was a truly joyous and remarkable occasion.
